Toby Grounds, the foundling boy the two buffalo hunters regarded as their son has to grow up without them as he works to keep alive their dream of someday having a horse ranch along the Yellowstone river in eastern Montana. Along the way, he enters into the conflicts America engages in as he follows Teddy Roosevelt to Cuba into the bloody Spanish-American War, then helps in the rescue of American citizens in China during the Boxer Rebellion. Home again, Grounds ekes out his family's existence by becoming a bounty hunting, a vocation which nearly gets him killed. Later, it's "gas masks for men and horses" as World War I draws him into its vortex of violence. Lloyd's novels overflow with action in historically accurate settings with the firearms of the day playing a part--the Sharps rifles, Winchesters, pistols and more.

About the Author:
Dave Lloyd is a 4th gener-ation Montanan. His great grandmother came up the Yellowstone on a steam-boat to the head-of-track outside Miles City. She knew and told her family stories of the men and the women who lived at the time. Dave grew up listening to her and his grandmother, the first white baby born in the county, as they reminisced of that era's rowdy times. Later, Dave was a working cowboy and became assistant ranch-manager on one of the largest ranches in the state. Western Cattle Company, with hundreds of sections of land and cattle numbering in the thousands. He researches his books, and tries to make them historically accurate with their characters true to the times. Lloyd has always been a gun, hunting and shooting enthusiast, and his readers are delighted by the old Sharps, Winchesters and other rifles and pistols used by the characters in Lloyd's novels. The author lives in Helena, Montana with his wife, Donna and continues to write of the early beginnings of the state he loves.
