From the Author:
In the third Paws & Claws book, I wanted to highlight the K9 dogs of the Chula Vista Police Department. Officers Antony and Arnold, who had a cameo in the first book and a slightly larger role in the second, now move to center stage. When they come too close to uncovering the activities of the mysterious dog known as The Master, they are framed and expelled from the K9 Unit. They are forced to turn to their sometimes rivals/sometimes allies, the Three Dog Detective Agency for help. In this book we learn a lot about dog society and the ways they work with Companions (their name for us), as well as how they often keep us in the dark, for our own protection and safety. The story of The Master, an ancient and evil dog, is based on an actual event that happened in Chula Vista about forty years ago, when a strange creature was reported terrorizing animals in the eastern part of the city. Eventually it returned to the darkness from which it came. I always wondered what would have happened if it had been an ancient dog and had tried to control the packs of the city. I like to think he would have been foiled by the CVPD K9 Unit, as well as by courageous dogs like Levi, Sunny and Yoda.
