Basic Parkour: Basic Parkour and Freerunning Handbook is one of several books in the Survival Fitness Series.

Actually, Survival Fitness was the first book written and a few of the others in the series (Basic Parkour, Survival Swimming and Basic Rock Climbing) are just that book split up into smaller volumes.

It is important to note that the first book "Survival Fitness" contains all the information from the three books mentioned plus more. This is also mentioned in the description but is important because I do not want people to purchase things they already have.

In any case, the reason for splitting the books up in the first place was so that those that just wanted certain portions could get it without having to pay for the bigger book.

When I was a child (like many other children) I loved to climb trees, try to balance on stuff, roll on the ground and other similar activities. The only difference is I never really grew out of it.

Imagine my happiness when I discovered Parkour as a young adult. It meant I could do all those things and when other adults asked "what the hell are you doing jumping around like a fool?" I could reply... "Parkour... it's a legit activity, like martial arts."

Now Parkour to me is so much more. It is a vital part of Survival Fitness. Imagine being chased by an attacker that may be faster than you, but because of you Parkour skills you can easily out-maneuver him/her. For this kind of skill you only need the foundations. That is why this book is only Basic Parkour. In Survival Fitness functionality for survival is what counts, not flashy movements. Know the basics and drill them so they are instinctive.

Parkour is a great way to keep fit, a tremendous confidence builder (especially when it comes to overcoming fears), a means of expression and when you start to practice it I am almost 100% sure you will start to see your surrounding in a new light.

These are just some of the things I personally love about / have gotten out of Parkour. I truly hope you have similar experiences.

I feel that it is necessary to state that my intention for this book, like all my books, is NOT to replace a trained instructor. Everyone knows that trying to teach yourself any skill from a book can never replace the value of a good instructor, and it is no different here - however - if you do not have access to an instructor (for whatever reason) and/or want some training ideas and/or tips then this book is for you. Ideally you could try the ideas out and get your instructor to correct your mistakes / help coach you to be better.
