Synopsis

There are a number of creeks and rivers that flow into the bays along the Texas Coast. As long as the rivers and creeks stay salty and heavy rains have not flooded the rivers, many speckled trout and redfish find refuge in the winter in the warmth of deep water and even through cold temperatures, trout feed on bait fish, that are plentiful. Another advantage of fishing creeks and rivers is that strong winds are not too much of a problem as if fishing in open bays. Night fishing is very good on the rivers when the water turns green and the temperature cools off. At times before it gets too cold, birds will work shrimp just as in the bay. When the rivers are packed with trout and the weather is very cold trout will stay in the deepest part of the river at this time trolling different types of fishing lures will pay off.

About the Author

I, Toby Hogan have been fishing on the Texas coast for 60 years. My first fishing trip was sometime in the 1950’s. My Uncle Julius Hogan took my dad, my brother Jim and I to Placedo Creek near Port Lavaca. That day I fell in love with the outdoors, boats and catching fish. In the 1960’s, I served in the Navy in Vietnam. After returning home, I opened a Taxidermy Shop. In the 1970’s. my brother Charlie Hogan and I fished a lot on the coast, rivers, creeks and nearby lakes. In the 1980’s, I started making fishing lures. I originated the Hogie Lure Company and made lures out of hard plastic and soft plastic for salt water as well as fresh water fishing. In 2010, I decided to come up with a new line of fishing lures and with the help of my brother Jim Hogan, retired Navy Master Chief and Vietnam Veteran and his dear wife Takako , we are making lures for Sale on-line ONLY.
