In 2002 I was diagnosed with having Postpartum Depression after the birth of our second child. Throughout a span of 9 years I was diagnosed with everything from Postpartum Depression to Major Depressive Disorder. This mainly had to do with the fact that I only sought help when my depression was at it's lowest point. It wasn't until I was pregnant with our seventh child that I sought the help of our local Emergency Room. It was there that I was sent to a psychiatrist who after 2 hours of discussing the last 20 years of my life with my husband and therapist that the diagnosis was made that I had Bipolar Disorder. It took me a year to accept the fact that I indeed had this illness and it was time to reach out and help others who were experiencing the same things I was experiencing. I started a blog 3 years ago called Moorestorms Bipolar Parenting. Throughout the years that blog has gone through many transformations and is now Mothering Through Bipolar. I want to reach out to moms who are living with this illness and offer them comfort, encouragement and support. There is always hope and during our darkest times we forget that. I want to be there to help them through that time and offer them the support they need.
About the Author:
I was diagnosed with BIPOLAR DISORDER in 2011 while I was pregnant with our seventh child. I spent the entire first year fighting my diagnosis and researching any other possible explanation for the symptoms I was having. After spending countless hours trying to disprove my doctor, I finally hung my head in defeat and slowly accepted the fact that I did indeed have BIPOLAR DISORDER. But I was determined not to let it stop me or get me down. I began a search for other bipolar parents who were living with bipolar just like myself. I started a blog and began connecting with parents from many parts of the world. Soon I found out that my blog was the only resource for parents who were suffering from bipolar disorder. A Google search showed that there were no resources for parents living with the disorder themselves. From there I published the book "Moorestorms A Guide For The Bipolar Parent" which has now been titled Mothering Through Bipolar. I also have gone on to publish four other books, all memoirs and self-help guides for the bipolar parent. Today I own the non-profit organization The Bipolar Parenting Project Foundation where we help bipolar parents on their road to stability.
