The worlds of fine art and comic art meet in Jerry Belland's Close to the Edge. An established artist from the upper Midwest, Belland turns to the single-panel cartoon format with inspired results. Belland's distinctive drawing style is complimented by his pointed use of titles and sidebars, which often heighten the thought-provoking content. The cartoons sometimes contain quick, wry observations. Most, however, tackle the big issues. The history of the world is here in one panel. About the Author:
Jerry Belland is a Wisconsin artist. For decades he has explored the possibilities of using words and images together. He has been recognized and published as a poet. His visual artwork sits in various private and public collections in the United States and abroad. In 2012, he received a Racine Art Museum Artist's Fellowship. Much of the work in this collection was made during the preparation for his fellowship exhibit.
