CHAPTER 1

Everything Owes Its Existence to Sound

What we have called matter is energy, whose vibration has been so lowered as to be perceptible to the senses.

Everything vibrates! The universe and all that is within it is in a constant state of vibratory motion. The science of quantum physics has proven that everything at the molecular level is energy in a state of motion. All plant life, all animals, every human being — all of life vibrates with electromagnetic frequencies; without these frequencies life would not exist. Scientists know this, physicists know this, medical doctors know this, and yet, in the Western cultures, we are not taught about this vital aspect of our being. It is time to expand our self-awareness and reclaim a powerful truth: our bodies vibrate! Vibrational frequencies dramatically affect the patterning of matter and fluid that comprises the human body. Understanding how vibrations interact with the human body brings into our conscious awareness the unseen forces that shape our health. This is the fundamental principle of energy medicine.

The science of cymatics, developed by Dr. Hans Jenny, is the study of how inert substances (matter) can be shaped into forms and held there by applying specific sound frequencies. His research has proven that shapes and forms remain intact as long as sound is pulsing through a substance. If the sound stops, the forms and shapes collapse. Knowing that sounds create forms raises important questions: What role does vibrational frequency play in creating and sustaining the human body? How does sound affect the cellular patterns that support our physical health? How do the patterns of a healthy body differ from the patterns of an unhealthy body?

The fields of physics, biology, mathematics, and chemistry know and teach that what appears as solid form to the human eye is created by vibrating molecules, and these vibrations express themselves in geometric figures. Modern cell biology teaches that the human body, at a cellular level, is an intricate system of organized geometric shapes and patterns. Cymatic scientists have demonstrated that these geometric forms in nature can be recreated using applied sound frequencies. The research conducted in this field has reproduced the shape of starfish, turtle shells, snowflakes, and structures within the human brain. Ongoing research into cymatics is proving that specific sounds create specific shapes, and that applying more than one sound frequency simultaneously will produce specific three-dimensional shapes.

Spiritual traditions, from ancient cultures predating the Bible to the most current religions, teach that sound is the formative force for all of creation. In India, it is believed the universe hangs on sound — a cosmic vibration so massive and allen-compassing that everything, seen and unseen, is filled with vibration. Pharaoh Shabaka, king of Egypt in the late eighth century BC, is known for restoring ancient religious texts. He commissioned the Shabaka Stone, which tells the story of the god Ptah, who created the entire cosmos by uttering words. The sacred Hindu text Rig Veda presents the story of creation in these words: "In the beginning was Brahman, with whom was Vak, and the word is Brahman ... by that word ... he created all things whatsoever." The direct translation of Vak in this text is "the word." In the Mayan teachings of Popul Vuh, men were given life by the power of the spoken word. Humankind has always had an intuitive awareness that everything owes its existence to sound.

Does the Bible give any evidence to support this concept that everything is patterned and held together by sound? In the Old Testament, the book of Genesis 1:1–2 tells the story of creation this way: "In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. The earth was formless and void, darkness was over the surface of the deep, and the Spirit of God was hovering over the waters." In these passages, the spirit of God hovered over something formless and void, and created form. The Hebrew word for hovered as used here is rachaph, which means "to move, shake, flutter ..." — to vibrate! The spirit of God vibrated over something formless and void to enable the matter of the universe to take on specific physical form.

Looking again at the story of creation in the New Testament, the book of John 1:1–3 says, "In the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God. He was in the beginning with God. All things came into being through Him, and apart from Him nothing came into being that has come into being." It was the spoken word of God, through Christ, that created man. The spoken word is experienced as sound frequencies, as vibrations. Hebrews 1:3 says, "He is the radiance of His glory and the exact representation of His nature, and upholds all things by the word of His power." Colossians 1:17 says, "He is before all things, and in Him all things hold together." All of creation, including the human body, is sustained and held together by the constant vibrational frequencies of God's spoken word.

The human body is a complex and interactive combination of systems: the endocrine system, the circulatory system, the musculoskeletal system, the respiratory system, the nervous system, the digestive system, the integumentary system (skin, hair, and nails), the lymphatic system, and the energetic system. Each system has its own electromagnetic communication, and each system interacts with the other body systems through electrical and chemical transference. All cellular interaction involves electrically charged particles held together by magnetic polarity. We are designed with an intricate system of electromagnetic frequencies. The biological and psychological functioning of each individual is dependent upon these frequencies of energy.

Have you ever felt static electricity when you walked barefoot across a carpet and then touched a light switch? Or touched an electrostatic ball at a science museum and watched the hair on your body stand on end? These are both illustrations of the existence of an electromagnetic field within the human body.

Energy medicine, also called bioenergetics, is the science of using specific frequencies — the frequencies that have been identified with patterns of health within the human body — to interact within the electromagnetic field. These frequencies are applied to specific areas, either around or on the body. This technique helps to locate any areas that do not resonate at that same frequency, or that block the free flow of frequencies. Any disease process will be evident as a disturbance in the structure and function of these frequencies. Applying specific, strong resonant frequencies directly to the body reminds it on a cellular level of its inherent patterns for health. This is the essence of energy medicine.

Many other cultures, historically and currently, utilize effective tools for healing based on vibrational frequencies. Perhaps earlier cultures were more connected to natural energies because they did not have the modern distractions of our culture. We spend hours connected to our computers, cell phones, video games, and TVs, as well as to the internet and social media. But we are less connected to our physical bodies, to the people around us, to nature, or to the natural energetic power that surrounds us. It is time for us to disconnect so we can reconnect.

Wisdom is the application of knowledge. By ignoring the wisdom of other cultures, we could be contributing to our own disease. As early as 500 BC in Greece, Pythagoras used the flute and lyre as vibrational healing instruments. In 200 BC, the Egyptians designed healing chapels and burial chambers with acoustic resonance to create enhanced sound reverberations. Egyptian healers also used a musical instrument that generated ultrasound, much like the ultrasound now used in Western medicine. The Mayan shamans created rooms inside pyramids where united voices toning in high frequencies could turn darkness into light. The Aboriginal people are the first known culture to have created a sound tool, called the yidaki or didgeridoo, specifically for healing. The didgeridoo is used to heal broken bones and many illnesses. Hindu Ayurvedic medicine has used toning to balance the human energy system for thousands of years. Tibetan monks have used gongs and chanting for at least a thousand years as a means of healing and for spiritual awakening. Native American shamans use ceremonial toning and chanting to facilitate healing.

Are the truths found in each of these healing practices considered "new age," or are they ancient traditions based on proven experience? Many Christians are skeptical and concerned about the New Age movement, a term used to describe the belief that we are all one energy consciousness, that there is no external authority, and that the only authority resides within the individual. I have observed widespread confusion in people's minds concerning the "subtle bodies" of energy in energy-healing practices. There seems to be a fear among Christians that any spiritual belief different from Christianity has somehow distorted the truth about these subtle bodies of energy. There is concern that words like mystic and mysticism suggest Eastern religions, and not Christianity. But in fact, Catholic mystics used the term "subtle energies" to describe the energetic communion with God they experienced while in deep prayer.

A mystic refers to someone who has an intimate and direct relationship with God. Mysticism is a vital part of the Christian heritage.

If another culture knows something about the human body that we do not use in Western medicine or in Christian culture, we should not be so closed-minded as to say there is no truth there. Instead, God tells us in 1Thessalonians 5:21, "Examine everything carefully; hold fast to that which is good." The Arizona Institute for Advanced Medicine states, "If use of a tool results in dangerous consequences to the patient, we are well advised to find a different tool. If use of a tool results in accurate assessment and good treatments, then we can use it in good conscience."

Science and research are proving the existence of the electromagnetic field and the vibrational aspect of all matter, including human life. This proof has reintroduced energy medicine into the consciousness of Western society. Scriptural support for these scientific explanations helps remove any fear barriers that might prevent someone from claiming the truth that we are much more than just our physical bodies. We also have energetic bodies capable of rebalancing and supporting our physical and psychological health. When science and faith confirm each other, we are free to step into the powerful energetic healing abilities of our innate creation and use applied energy medicine to help facilitate that healing.

CHAPTER 2

What Is the Electromagnetic Field?

There is a constant flow of specific vibrational frequencies that surrounds and penetrates the human body, and without these frequencies we could not exist. Medical diagnostic tools, such as the PET, MRI, EEG, EKG, SPECT, etc., work within the frequencies of this electromagnetic field that flows around and through the human body. Medical healing tools also rely on specific applied frequencies to aid in the body's repair. For example, sound frequencies are used to break up crystallized stones that impede the function of the bladder, gallbladder, and kidneys; electric stimulators are used to aid in bone and tissue regrowth; applied low-level frequencies are used in transcranial therapy to alleviate anxiety and depression; and ongoing research has validated the effects of specific sound wave frequencies on the repair of DNA.

In a state of optimum health, all humans vibrate at the same frequency within each of their organs, body systems, and energetic systems. Trauma, disease, and stress can interfere with healthy functioning of the body systems, as well as cause imbalances in the vibrational frequencies of the electromagnetic field. Barbara Hero and the International Lamdoma Research Institute discovered the frequencies listed below by passing sound waves through a healthy organ and then calculating its frequency using the speed of sound. Energy medicine has a direct impact on restoring the health and function of our organs, cells, and body systems when applying these specific frequencies of health to selected locations on the body.

Not only are we created with an electromagnetic field that surrounds and sustains our physical body — and with specific vibrational frequencies within each organ — but we are also designed to stand in the electromagnetic ring that surrounds the earth. In fact, we are so dependent on the earth's vibratory resonance that when we lose contact with it for prolonged periods of time, we become ill. This was proven when the first astronauts experienced nausea, headaches, and disorientation while in outer space. When Professor Winfried Schumann suggested installing simulators tuned to the average frequency of the earth's magnetic field, the health problems were resolved. The electromagnetic ring that surrounds the earth is now known as the Schumann Resonance and is expressed as 7.8 Hz (Hz is a term used to define the speed of a unit of frequency). We are designed to stand in and receive this 7.8 Hz frequency deeply within our bodies.

Laboratory research has discovered that exposing living human cells to the Schumann Resonance increases their immune function. Research has also proven that the earth's resonance vibrates at the same frequency as human heart rhythms and brain waves. When a person's brain waves resonate at 7.8 Hz, it has been shown to be an essential requirement for physical and psychological health. This brain-wave entrainment is the basic principle of the Hindu practice of chanting "om" to calm the mind and the circulatory system. Vedic mantra chants are believed to produce a vibratory energy powerful enough to transform the mind and body. The Christian practice of breathing the name of God as "Yahweh" entrains the mind and body to sacred divine presence. The human body is designed to resonate at specific frequencies, and stand firmly rooted in specific frequencies, that support our physical, psychological, and spiritual health.

Considering the fact that the earth's magnetic resonances vibrate in concert with the same frequencies as the human heart and brain, let's take an even deeper look at the story of creation. Genesis 2:7 says, "Then the Lord God formed man of dust from the ground, and breathed into his nostrils the breath of life; and man became a living being." Man was formed from the same matter as the earth. Human bodies have a deeply intimate and intrinsic relationship with earth: we are made of the same stuff. It is the nishmat chayyim, or the ruach — both Hebrew words for " breath of life" divinely intended for humans — that sets us apart.

Intentionally standing in the earth's electromagnetic field is the principle behind the practice of grounding. There is much confusion and concern among Christians about the practice of grounding. The concern seems to be based on conflicts of belief with religions that worship earth gods. However, opening our bodies to receive the electromagnetic resonance of the earth does not mean we are worshipping Earth as a supernatural entity. The practice of grounding is learning to become centered within our spiritual essence and then connecting deeply into the earth's supportive resonant frequency. When we do this, we stand in the beautiful polarity that our Creator designed to keep us physically and psychologically balanced and healthy.
