What should you teach your children about Black or African history? 19 Lessons in Black History: 19 Hours of Teaching and Learning Material for Parents, Guardians and Teachers of High School Students and Key Stage 3 Students is aimed at parents and teachers who would like good, solid, academically challenging information to teach their children. The material was designed to be used for children at around Key Stage 3 Level – i.e. young people aged 11 to 14. The lessons can work with slightly older or younger people. The author has profitably used this material with adults. The first ten lessons concern Ancient and Mediaeval Africa. The first five classes deal with different African civilisations. The second five classes deal with early African contributions to science and technology. The last nine lessons concern Black People in the Atlantic Age, that is, since the time of Christopher Columbus. These classes deal with the Atlantic Slave Trade and Black resistance to it. It also covers Black personalities in British history, such as Olaudah Equiano. The final part of the book is an Image Bank to supplement the information in the lessons.
