Synopsis

Follow the Dead is the thrilling twelfth book in Lin Anderson's Rhona MacLeod series. When Cairngorm Mountain Rescue Team respond to a report of a downed helicopter on the frozen Loch Avon they discover two bodies in the gruesome wreckage, one of whom is later identified as a Norwegian government official. While searching the site, the bodies of three climbers are found in a nearby cave having frozen to death. Sensing foul play, forensic expert Dr Rhona MacLeod is brought in to investigate. Meanwhile in Glasgow, DS Michael McNab raids a private members club looking for cocaine but instead finds young women partying with the city's elite. Questioning the women reveals they were smuggled into Scotland via Norway and that the crashed helicopter on Cairngorm may be linked to the trade. Tensions arise between Norwegian detective Jax Dahl who arrives to join the investigation, and McNab, who suspects Dahl's only there to conceal Norwegian involvement, rather than reveal it.While McNab locks horns with Dahl, Rhona discovers that there may have been three people in the helicopter, and that this missing person could be a killer. She soon finds herself at the mercy of both the elements and those who desire such an investigation to die in the frozen wasteland of Cairngorm . . .

Review

All in all this is a scintillating read, and whether you are already an Anderson fan or have never picked up one of her books I would recommend spending some time with Follow The Dead - though you might need a blanket handy to deal with the chills * Scotsman * Shades of The Wicker Man, with a touch of Agatha Christie. Superb * Daily Mail * The bleak landscape is beautifully described, giving this popular series a new lease of life * The Sunday Times * Lin Anderson is one of Scotland's national treasures - don't be fooled by comparisons, her writing is unique, bringing warmth and depth to even the seediest parts of Glasgow. Lin's Rhona MacLeod is a complex and compelling heroine who just gets better with every outing -- Stuart MacBride An outstanding thriller . . . The pace is beautifully judged, and though there are plenty of twists and turns, the reader never feels left behind * Undiscovered Scotland * Perfectly paced and with alternating narratives - including that of the merciless, shadowy killer - Follow the Dead is a true thriller-chiller, and an enthralling read for both seasoned fans and newcomers to the work of this talented author * Lancashire Post *

Paperback. Condition: Good. Shortlisted for the 2018 McIlvanney Prize for Scottish Crime Book of the Year. Follow the Dead is the thrilling twelfth book in Lin Anderson's forensic crime series featuring Rhona MacLeod. On holiday in the Scottish Highlands, forensic scientist Dr Rhona MacLeod joins a mountain rescue team on Cairngorm summit, where a mysterious plane has crash-landed on the frozen Loch Aan. Added to that, a nearby climbing expedition has left three young people dead, with a fourth still missing. Meanwhile in Glasgow, DS McNabs raid on the Delta Club produces far more than just a massive haul of cocaine. Questioning one of the underage girls found partying with the citys elite reveals she was smuggled into Scotland via Norway, and it seems the crashed plane in the Cairngorms may be linked to the club. But before McNab can discover more, the girl is abducted. Joined by Norwegian detective Alvis Olsen, who harbours disturbing theories about how the two cases are connected with his homeland, Rhona searches for the missing link. What she uncovers is a dark underworld populated by ruthless people willing to do anything to ensure the investigation dies in the frozen wasteland of the Cairngorms . . . Follow Rhona MacLeod in more forensic thrillers with Sins of the Dead and Time for the Dead. The book has been read but remains in clean condition. All pages are intact and the cover is intact.
