About the Author

Tim Winton has published twenty-nine books for adults and children, and his work has been translated into twenty-eight languages. Since his first novel, An Open Swimmer, won the Australian/Vogel Award in 1981, he has won the Miles Franklin Award four times (for Shallows, Cloudstreet, Dirt Music and Breath) and twice been shortlisted for the Booker Prize (for The Riders and Dirt Music). Active in the environmental movement, he is the Patron of the Australian Marine Conservation Society. He lives in Western Australia.

Turbocharged by its unique and grimly funny teenage voice, The Shepherd's Hut is a page-turning heartbreaker -- Emma Donoghue, author of Room Tim Winton is the author I most often recommend, safe in the knowledge his books will be adored by any reader. Within the first page of this book, I settled back, comfortable that I was in the hands of a master novelist at the very peak of their craft. Full of heart and life and beauty, it's a book with Australian dirt under its fingernails. I am jealous of anyone who gets to read him for the first time -- Evie Wyld, author of All The Birds, Singing Winton is, as always, a superb painter of Australian space. He takes this drear landscape and invests it with what can only be described as majesty . . . Winton's achievement in these pages is of a piece with his larger fictional project.
