About the Author:
Gordon William Hoyles, born a Poet 18th July 1936 at Garstang, Lancashire began his working life as a Marine Engineer on steam ships sailing out of Liverpool. And later, restless, tried a variety of jobs before buying Bell House Farm at Cragg Vale, Mytolmroyd, west Yorkshire in 1973 where he devoted more time to writing, completing several projects there; First Plonkout, Plonkout Too, The Tin Book, Bell House manuscript ad this work 'Roll of the artist'. Married and divorced before Blossom joined him in 1975. His work developed into performance poetry and he gave successful readings, some funded by the National Poetry Secretariat, sometimes working alongside a rock band in club venues, and much of that work was printed on postcards. Life at Bell House was tough. Poetry existed side by side with hard labour in the shape of farm work and dry-stone walling which the couple did to keep hunger at bay and not always succeeding. The house had no electricity and a spring water supply outside, sometimes idyllic in Summer and equally unydillic in Winter. Since selling up and leaving Bell House in 1985 he and Blossom have prospered, eventually buying a Hotel, The Hotel Continental in Essex in 1996. Gordon did vvery little writing after 1985, using his artistic talent to create a 'living, sculptural installation" in the individual rooms of the Hotel. He recently took up writing again, encouraged by a creative writing student working during holidays at the Hotel and together they started a monthly poetry group. Since then he has given a number of performances of recent work on television, at poetry venues andArts Festivals. Blossom began writing the story of their life at Bell House and hadthe idea of publishing first 'The Tin Book' then 'The Roll of the Artist' both available on Amazon. The original 5 meter roll is being copied and will be available shortly through the website Gordonhoyles.com
