After centuries of being led by prophets and tribal judges, Israel is finally given a king to rule over them. However, their king is not the man he should be. The God of Israel, from whom all authority is ultimately derived, selects another man to take the king's place on the throne. Unfortunately, it is not a simple process to replace a king, as the young David finds out. The shepherd boy is incorporated into the royal house of Saul and stands up to the Philistine giant, and slowly but surely climbs the ranks of the Israelite army. Eventually, he becomes so successful King Saul sees him as a threat, and David flees from his master. Through years of trials, his faith and leadership capabilities are tested and refined until David is ready to take over the throne. Join the young hero on his epic journey as he navigates through battle and betrayal, heartache and joy, to become the man after God's own heart.

From the Back Cover:
"Ready your bow, and wait for my command," David said to Abiezer."Yes, sir," he replied. The Philistines were marching quickly. Ina short time they had reached David and the archers and continued onpast them down the road. David counted twenty-five men per columnfor a total of fifty--all soldiers, all wearing heavy armor and carryingswords and spears. This would not be easy. Philistines were never easy. The Israelite soldiers knew that. Every one of them crouched behindcover, tense and ready for action. David's heart was racing. Withouttaking his eyes off the Philistines, he sent one more silent prayer up tothe Lord.Almighty God, how great You are. Gird us with strength andcourage. Make your servants as quick as deer and stronger than bronze.Protect your servants from these heathen. Help us to carry out Yourwill that Your great name may be exalted among these uncircumcisedmen. Glory be given to You only.David took a deep breath. As the last soldier passed by, hereached forward and grabbed Abiezer's shoulder. Here we go, Davidthought. Then with a loud voice, David shouted, "Israel!" Abiezer andthe four with him loosed their arrows and shouted. On the far end, thefive other archers followed suit only a split-second later. With the attackcommenced, all the troops in the southern tree line rose and rushedforward, swords raised, shouting at the top of their lungs.
