Zambia became an independent Republic of Zambia on 24 October 1964, with Kenneth Kaunda as the first president for twenty-seven years, He and his successors have, over the last fifty years, created a stable and united nation under the motto ‘One Zambia, One Nation’. Zambia is regarded as a beautiful, friendly, diverse, and unspoilt country. Aside from the majestic Victoria Falls on the Zambezi River, despite its considerable mineral wealth and agricultural potential, Zambia is not well known. This book One Zambia, One Nation, One, Country, provides the reader with a virtual guide to Zambia's profile of her geographical location, forestry, rivers, lakes and dams, history people and its government, culture, governance, economy. The motto ‘One Zambia, One Nation’ is borrowed from our coat of arms to provide a title to this book dedicated to President Kenneth David Kaunda, the founding father of the nation, for his service to the nation, uniting the country and building a strong foundation of a modern, stable, and united nation.

About the Author

The author was born at Kunda's Village in Fort Rosebery (now Mansa) District. He attended Roan Antelope and Luanshya Central School for his primary school education. Thereafter, he attended as private school and wrote GCE Ö Levels. He trained as primary school teacher and taught at Mununga Primary School for four years. During that time, he studied for his GCE ä Level. In June 1970, he was admitted as student at the University of Zambia and graduated with merit in 1974. He was appointed a staff development fellow in the Department of History of the Universities of Zambia in Lusaka between 1975 and 1982, he studied at the, Wisconsin at Madison, USA for his master’s and doctorate. In 1994 he studied for a Post Graduate Diploma in Conflict Resolution at the Uppsala University Sweden. He has taught at the Universities of Zambia 1974–1997 and was visiting scholar from Miami University, Oxford, Ohio, in United States of America (1984 to 1985); Cape Town (1991) and Natal, Pietermaritzburg, South Africa(1993) Chancellor College, Malawi (1995), He later taught at the University of Namibia (1997 -2000). He has done extensive research and published widely on in political, economic, social, health, veterinary, and environmental issues in Eastern and Southern Africa. Kn 2000, he was appointed Zambia's former Ambassador and Permanent Representative at the United Nations, New York (September 2000 to March 2005). After leaving his diplomatic position, he rejoined the Department of History as Professor.
