Unity Tree is a poetic adventure divided into five sections: Our Island Home, Music of the Spheres, Human Family Picnic, Ancient Footprints and A Place to Call Home. This volume celebrates the beauty of nature, the cosmos and the human community. Unity Tree is Robert Charles Howard's first book of poetry. Mr. Howard is a conductor and composer as well as a poet whose mission is to include poetry in his music and music in his poetry.

Robert Charles Howard earned his B.A. degree in music from Eastern Michigan University in 1967 and his M.M. degree in Music Composition from Michigan State University University in 1970. He served as on the faculty of Music at Saint Louis Community College at Meramec from 1970 to 2001 where he taught Music Theory and conducted the college orchestra and chorale. He was appointed conductor of the Belleville Philharmonic Orchestra in 1995 and the Belleville Philharmonic Chorale in 2003 and retired in 2016 and now resides in Estes Park CO. After having written numerous vocal texts for solo voice and chorus he began writing poetry without music in 2004. His cantata, Wilderness Reflections was commissioned by the Oratorio Society of Estes Park for the Centennial of Rocky Mountain National Park and was premiered in Estes Park in June, 2015 under the direction of Kathryn Bowers.
