The Taverner's Tale A True History What then is The Taverner's Tale? The tale, in the form of a play, chronicles the adventures of two young actors and would be playwrights while returning on foot to London from a visit to an Earl's estate in Wales in 1588, the year of Spain's attempted invasion of England with its vast Invincible Armada. War is close at hand. After a joint romantic encounter with two fair damsels, they find their lives at risk of death and the course of their future fortunes forever changed by their subsequent perils. It is an earthy and bawdy tale. It could explain many of the mysteries surrounding the previously unknown education and the early life of two of England's greatest writers. Who were those actors? What were their names? How did they end? Who wrote this Play? Is this a long lost tale by Shakespeare? If not, then by whom? What was the possibility or even the probability of the role of chance in the origin of this play? The play itself is characterized by its author's use of a rich tapestry of conceits and metaphors. Its language is directly and indisputably drawn from and crafted in the manner of plays from the Elizabethan era. In its form, rhythm, style, meter, mastery of plot and portrayal of character, it closely resembles the works of Shakespeare. Indeed, it is written and woven throughout with his favored verse form, iambic pentameter. The frequent sexual innuendos with their associated word play, a hall mark of Shakespeare, that are contained within these lines are more fully explored and noted in the footnotes. One friend on first reading the play asked, Where did you find this play? Another said, If Shakespeare didn't write it, he should claim it as his own! What do you think? In addition to Amazon, the book is available on Kindle and other electronic platforms. Volume Purchase Prices: As the play is long and may be being presented in shortened form by Directors for reasons of time, theater managers should note that theatergoers may wish to purchase a copy with the full text and its extensive comments on Chance in History to be enabled to read the play and these comments in their entirety later while at leisure. Such sales on site and through Theaters Book Stores can thus enable the theaters to receive additional revenues through sales on site at the time of any duly licensed production or even that of the production of other plays. It should be noted that the book also serves as a suitable gift for theater's Boards of Directors and major financial supporters in capital funding solicitations. Individuals, Theaters, Colleges and University bookstores and Commercial Merchandising Entities may make volume trade discount purchases of this play for resale or distribution to the general public at the books nonreturnable discount rates at the printer's then applicable price plus, taxes, shipping and handling costs. About the Author:
Peter Johnson was born in Worcester, Massachusetts in 1931. He is a graduate of Williams College and of the University of Virginia School of Law. After service in the Air Force and having moved to California, his interests in politics led to his work with Nixon as a Special Assistant in his campaign for Governor and to his employment as a Schedule Director for Nelson Rockefeller during his 1964 Presidential Campaign. In 1966, Ronald Reagan personally recruited him to serve as one of his campaign's Vice Chairman and as his Schedule Director for Northern California in his first campaign for the governorship of California, organizing and running his campaign rallies, public appearances and travel and hotel arrangements. He served for two years in Reagan's first administration as the Chief of the State's Fair Employment and Fair Housing Practices Division and the Executive Secretary of its Fair Employment and Fair Housing Commission during the racially strife torn and turbulent years of the late 1960s. He also served as the statewide Schedule Director for Ronald Reagan's second Gubernatorial Primary campaign. Following that engagement, he was employed by Industrial Indemnity Company for a decade in the insurance industry in San Francisco as a Staff Counsel and as a Senior Defense Trial Attorney. Moving to the Pacific Northwest in 1989, he subsequently became a member of the State Bar of Oregon. He has served as a Director, Officer and Legal Department Director of several start-up ventures during the course of his business and legal career in California, Oregon and Washington. Married to his wife Vija Johnson in 1958, they live in Vancouver, Washington.
