About the Author

Dr. John Wesley Slider and his wife, Lillian, have been married for thirty-seven years. They have two married children and one grandchild. John is a second generation Methodist pastor. He began is pastoral work in the United Methodist Church in 1979 and was ordained a Deacon in 1980 and an Elder in 1982. He served several churches in the Kentucky Annual Conference of the United Methodist Church – all of which grew in membership, worship attendance, and Sunday School attendance. Dr. Slider graduated from Hanover College with a B.A. in history in 1975. He was on the football and track teams. He set three school records while running track. Dr. Slider spent twenty-four years in the United States Marine Corps with a mixture of active duty and reserve service. He was an armor officer with secondary specialties of infantry and legal services. He attended various schools such as The Basic School, Amphibious Warfare School, Command and Staff College, Naval War College, Naval Justice School, and the National Defense University. He retired from the reserves in 1996 as a Lieutenant Colonel. John retired from the United Methodist Church in 2010 and transferred his ordination to the Free Methodist Church. Since 2010 he has been a member of the New South Conference and pastor of Breckenridge Chapel in St. Matthews (Louisville), Kentucky. He has several books in publication including Free Methodist Handbooks.
