From the Inside Flap

We could citethe kill shelter stats ad nauseum, but you already know them. You've seen themfirst hand. We have all shed torrents of tears and spewed righteous anger atthose in charge of local hellhole pounds - sometimes euphemistically called "shelters"- until exhaustion. And still they murder innocent animals day after day.
            Now what?
Now is the time for action.
No morehand-wringing. No more accepting the status quo. No more allowing our taxdollars to be used to needlessly snuff out the lives of the animals in the careand control of your local animal control pound.
Reform Your Animal Shelter Now! is acitizens' guide to help you galvanize or force reform where it has to happen:locally. Local citizens must take charge and either educate and inform thepeople who are in charge of your local pound into reforming, or you must makeit easier for them to reform than to withstand your incessant, persistent, unrelenting onslaught of reform demands.
It won't be quick. It won't be easy.It won't be painless, but most things worth working for aren't quick, easy, orpainless. When you're ready to give up, ask yourself if the next day would havebeen the one that turned the corner. When you're ready to give up, think aboutthe lives lost every single day going forward because you gave up. When you'reready to give up, read another chapter in the book and keep going.
The key is: do not give up. StopONLY when you have succeeded.
            Let's get to work.

About the Author

Jacki Moss rescued her first stray when she wasfive years old. She heard a puppy whimpering, found it, and decided to save it.She knew her mom wouldn't allow her to officially have it, so she hid it in alarge (safe) drainage pipe nearby and took care of it several days until hermom followed her one day and found out her secret.
That was her gateway rescue. Since then, she has personally rescued dozens ofdogs and cats, and been involved in rescues by other individuals and entities.  She vowed to make a difference for homeless animals right then.
She and several other animal activists did just that by forcing the reform of a small, rural, woefully under-funded pound run by a government determined to notchange a damn thing about it.
The citizens group had to use every tool they could imagine to force change, but they did it. Those efforts and techniques are the genesis of this book.

Diane Finley Biography

She has also worked with wildlife rescue, but dogs and cats have been her mainfocus. Diane was heavily involved in the transformation of a middle Tennesseehigh-kill shelter to a now no-kill shelter, and now works with shelters andrescues on a daily basis with saving animals and finding approved newhomes.  She also operates a cat rescue and sanctuary at her home, whichshe currently shares with two dogs and sixteen cats.
