Synopsis

Jaelle was furious at John. He'd left her for another woman. He'd also left all this junk behind. Wait, this helmet was interesting. Was it Roman? She had to try it on. Whoa, dizzy. Huh? Was this a cleverly disguised virtual reality headset? Because that looked like Hadrian's Wall. And the Romans on the other side didn't look friendly.

Review

Druids, a handsome Pictish leader, jealous paramours, and an evil Roman commander

I love Jane Stain's way of making history come alive and the premise of Jaelle's ex-fiance John and his five brothers being under the control of Druids because their MacGregor ancestor settled a debt by allowing the descendants of his fourth son to be cursed to time travel on missions for the Druids. Jaelle met John, his family, and their girlfriends when she worked the Renaissance Faire throughout her teens learning Gaelic, costuming, and sword-fighting. She still practices with the heavy swords as a member of the Society for Creative Anachronism and reads all the history books in the library as she goes about guiding tour groups through the Museum of Ancient History.

Jaelle happens upon an odd Roman helmet while going through her ex's stuff in the basement. Luckily she's on video chat with a time traveling pal when she tries on the helmet, as she's transported back to ancient Scotland. Using her combat training from the Society for Creative Anachronism, she helps a handsome Pict defeat his Roman persuers.

Even with a vast knowledge of history thanks to her love of the past, Jaelle doesn't know much about the Picts. Using her wits and instinct, we go on this amazing adventure with her. Discover what happens when the past, druids, a handsome Pictish leader, jealous paramours, and an evil Roman commander all combine!
