Synopsis

Add to Your Faith… is a Bible study, aimed primarily at ladies, which looks at 2 Peter 1:5-7 in an in-depth study of the qualities that God wants us to have in our Christian lives. After a discussion of each quality, the author then identifies a Bible lady who exemplified that characteristic in her life. Taking it one step further, Mrs. Ricks also recognizes a lady whom she has known in modern life who also exhibits some of that quality. These women are given pseudonyms to protect their privacy. This book encourages growth in the Christian life through study of the Word; it’s not just a book to read and lay aside. Add to Your Faith… makes a nice companion to Jackie Ricks’ first Bible study, Profiles of Virtue, which covers the virtuous woman passage of Proverbs 31:10-31. It is written in the same format. However, Mrs. Ricks was careful not to duplicate any women in both books. In this way, the reader may see more studies of different Bible ladies as well as modern ladies. This book would make a good Bible study for a women’s or girls’ class. Not only does the author discuss from the scripture, but she also asks probing questions and makes suggestions about improving Christian living. She has much experience from growing up as a preacher’s kid to being a preacher’s wife. Through the years, she has taught every level of Sunday school and continues to teach a women’s Bible study during the week. She also wrote Sunday school literature for her denomination for 14 years. Besides being a writer, she is a retired school teacher.

About the Author

Jackie Ricks is a native Texan; however, growing up as a preacher’s kid, she also lived in Oklahoma and Florida. Although the Chance on Love series is complete fiction, she based the personalities of her two main characters on her parents. In fact, the opening scene of Love Rejoices in the Truth was actually how her parents began their married life. Jackie has been writing ever since she started school. She began by writing “books” for her make-believe students as she pretended to be a teacher. Then she grew up and taught school for 31 years, and also wrote Sunday School literature for 14 years in her denomination.
