Li Zhao is a prisoner thrust onto the blood-soaked sands of the Roman Colosseum. Chained and armed with only a dull prop sword, Zhao must use his formidable skills in martial arts to fight for his life. But how did he get here? And what happens when a master of Chinese Kung Fu squares off with the professional gladiators of Ancient Rome? Five years earlier: Li Zhao sets out on a quest to find the fabled empire at the western end of the world, known to the Chinese only as the Da Qin. Li Zhao guards the envoy of the Han Dynasty, General Gan Ying, but, as they travel along the legendary Silk Road — skirting the infamous Desert of Irrevocable Death — their caravan is raided by fearsome nomadic horse archers of the steppe. In the fray, Zhao is grievously wounded and his companions are captured by the powerful Seuchian tribe. Saved from the brink of death by a rival tribe of outcast nomads, Zhao must work with the barbarian chieftain, Mogu, to defeat the Suechian and rescue the man he swore to protect. Will Zhao and Mogu succeed in war against the mighty Suechian or will they fall victim to the arrows of their enemies?
