Raymond Radiguet est né en 1903 à Saint Maur et mort en 1923. La brièveté de son existence a contribué à faire de l’auteur un prodige de la littérature française. Ses études ne l’intéressent pas et il quitte le lycée à quinze ans pour devenir journaliste. Il rencontre alors Max Jacob, André Salmon, Picasso ou encore le compositeur Francis Poulenc, et fréquente ainsi les milieux littéraires et artistiques du Paris des années 1920. Après la guerre, les tentations sont grandes de renouveler entièrement les arts, Radiguet quant à lui est trop jeune pour désirer s’en émanciper, ses lectures classiques l’ont nourri sans l’étouffer, et ses jeunes années dans une France délaissée de ses hommes l’ont rendu plus libre que ses contemporains. Lorsque Cocteau découvre le jeune homme en 1918, il le pousse à écrire et le sort de Paris à cet effet. S’ensuivront les rédactions du recueil poétique Les Joues en feu, ainsi que Le Diable au corps, et Le bal du Comte d’Orgel, publié à titre posthume en 1924. Il meurt de la fièvre typhoïde et laisse derrière lui l’image d’une jeunesse absolue et d’un génie à peine dévoilé.
