About the Author

Barry A. Sanders chairs the Southern California Committee for the Olympic Games--the organization that successfully bid for the 1984 Olympic Games and spearheads efforts to return the Games to Los Angeles. As a partner at the law firm of Latham & Watkins, he served as outside counsel to the Los Angeles Olympic Organizing Committee and was responsible for the negotiation of its multitude of contractual arrangements.

He is also an adjunct professor of Communications Studies at UCLA and author of American Avatar: The United States in the Global Imagination. He is a civic leader in Los Angeles in many roles, including as President of the Board of Commissioners of Recreation and Parks of the City of Los Angeles, member of the Coliseum Commission, Member of the Executive Committee of the Los Angeles Opera, and past Chair and President of the Los Angeles Philharmonic, among others. He is a member of the international Court of Arbitration for Sport and the Council on Foreign Relations
