Kayla is an energetic first grader who loves to learn, especially about science. She wants to be an astronomer when she grows up until Addison and Kelsey tell her it's a boy-job and intentionally leave her out. She begins to question herself and struggles with what to do-- dress up as a scientist for career day and ignore the mean things her classmates said or find a more girly profession. With the support of friends and family, Kayla learns that many famous and successful scientists are girls and that she does not have to change who she is to fit in with others. In the end, she finds her confidence and chooses to ignore the mean words said by others. She shows the value of believing in yourself and that girls can grow up to be great scientists, too! Proceeds from the sales of "Yes, Girls Can!" benefit the Reading is Fundamental organization promoting childhood literacy.
