James L. Hecht is a graduate of Cornell University and received a PhD in chemical engineering from Yale University. After spending thirty-one years with DuPont, Hecht retired to academic appointments with the University of Delaware, Temple University, and the University of Denver. He has written for over twenty publications, including the New York Times, Wall Street Journal, and Washington Post.
Hecht authored Because It Is Right: Integration in Housing and headed Housing Opportunities Made Equal (HOME) in both Buffalo, New York, and Richmond, Virginia.
In addition to fair housing practices, Hecht has worked to improve visitor safety in the national parks. He and his wife were awarded the Public Service Medal of the Department of the Interior for their efforts.
