Synopsis
Herland is a utopian novel from 1915, written by feminist Charlotte Perkins Gilman. The book describes an isolated society composed entirely of women, who reproduce via parthenogenesis (asexual reproduction). The result is an ideal social order: free of war, conflict, and domination.

About the Author
Charlotte Perkins Gilman (1860-1935) is recognised one of the great feminist writers. She wrote on history, anthropology, ethics, and philosophy, as well as producing volumes of poetry, novels, satire and social commentary. Her short stories, most memorably 'The Yellow Wallpaper', are set texts worldwide and in 1898 she wrote Women and Economics, which is now recognised as a feminist landmark. She was inducted into the American National Women's Hall of Fame in 1994.
