The Genius of Ordinary Food is an ‘in a nutshell' look at the amazing benefits our daily food gives to us.
The book follows the evolutionary journey of ‘Eva the hungry amoeba’, who travels from being a single-cell organism down the evolutionary path to becoming a 37.2 trillion cell human being.
Along her journey Eva encounters 28 foods, the benefits these ingredients give her are outlined in the context of her development. There are 6 chapters looking at cells & DNA, the immune system, bones and teeth, the heart and other organs, the brain, and a final chapter looking at the synergistic benefits of an amazing ingredient.
The nutritional benefits of the foods highlighted are based in sound science and the evolutionary ‘fable’ is garnished with known archaeological and food history.
This is a book for anyone interested in using natural food as a source of health, wellbeing and defence against infection and chronic disease.
There are 5 children's books coming soon, one for each chapter of this book.

Matt Wright developed a fascination for the genius of ordinary food at 8 years old when he was told the story of how ‘chickens foot jelly’ cured his dad and his uncle of a fatal dose of whooping cough in 1930’s London.
With the advent of the internet he pursued his fascination with the health benefits of ordinary food and became steadily frustrated with the oceans of misleading and often contradictory information about food and nutrition on the internet.
Having spent many years running web development agencies and developing high end information systems, Matt came up with the idea for checkyourfood.com, a site designed to bring clarity to an area awash with hearsay and misinformation.
Matt recently completed an Open University module in Human Biology, studying nutrition at a cellular level and has a nutritional therapy qualification. Matt continues his research into nutritional science and food composition on a daily basis.
Matt is responsible for the scientific research and data oversight at checkyourfood.com. This includes referencing and checking research sources, ensuring that the science and food composition data used on the checkyourfood.com is accurate and up-to-date.
