Atrocities in Action explores the various forms of violent and cruel oppression Black people have endured over the years in a comprehensive, honest, and age-appropriate way. Developed in conjunction with educator, advocate, and author Kelisa Wing to reach children of all races and encourage them to approach our history with open eyes and minds. Books include 21st Century Skills and content, as well as activities created by Wing. Also includes a table of contents, glossary, index, author biography, sidebars, educational matter, and activities.

About the Author
Kelisa Wing, Hedreich Nichols, and Leigh Ann Erickson are all authors, educators, and activists working to promote anti-racism and equality in our schools and beyond.

Gr 4-6-The books in this series are designed for kids who want to learn more about the history of racial injustice in America. The first chapter of each title begins with a question that highlights topics explored the work (e.g., "Desegregation and Integration: What's the Difference?" in Desegregation and Integration). The books have succinct chapters and a vibrant color palette coupled with images to paint a compelling picture of social injustice. Key words are highlighted and a raised hand symbol highlights key reference points. Back matter includes an "Extend Your Learning" section with web resources, a glossary, and an index. VERDICT This series educates readers about the history of racial inequality in America and would be a great resource for social studies classes.α(c) Copyright 2011.
