People occasionally ask why I left my well established, carpentrybusiness to write books and do training speaking, and consulting. I typically respond, "Because I am sofrustrated with the enormous increase of problems--everywhere I look--and thetidal wave of imprudent attempts to address them. People have so much potential and yet solittle awareness of and perceived access to that potential that it isscary. For about 20 years, I searchedfor this book because, with it, I could have discovered how to solve all my ownproblems. When I discovered it did not exist, I was given the charge write it." That got me thinking, however, so, with thatquestion and response in mind, I wrote the following:
The ability to reason--to think and act in pursuit of higherideals--is encoded in the DNA of all human souls.
The Declaration of Independence was the gateway to The Constitutionand The Bill of Rights. These inspireddocuments reflect the wisdom of the ages. They made the USA, the most sought afterplace to live earth's history and turned us into the most powerful nation theworld has ever seen. Not so much because we wanted to be better or morepowerful than others, but simply because living these principles maximized ourintrinsic potential and inadvertently created The Great American Dream.
Today, these documents, have proven a blueprint of freedom aroundthe globe. They empower governments to vanquish their evil adversaries andencourage people to preserve, protect and defend their unalienable (that is,God-given) rights. Thus, governments andpeople are empowered to evolve together and perpetuate liberty, harmony,prosperity & enlightenment.
Today our freedoms and independence are being threatened on almostevery side. Not only from outside butinside our boarders. Not only by ourenemies but our own citizens and even more disturbing, by many of our leadersand politicians. Granted, not allintentionally, but the results are the same.
Abraham Lincoln said, "...I am bound to stand with anyone whostands right and part company with him when he goes wrong." Such is our responsibility and sacred honorto secure and preserve this freedom and independence. Therein alone lies our ability to build anenlightened society--even an interdependence where there are no poor among usand a limitless potential beyond.
