Review

'"I was gifted this book by Shalon Ironroad, my friend, in return for a review, and as it is a "children's book," I patronizingly opened it, expecting elves and magic wands. But once I started reading, I couldn't put it down. I read it in one sitting. Children's book? Passages in it brought me to tears. Ostensibly the story of "the little bonsai tree that could," it is also a very powerful allegory, and it was only too easy to personify myself as the little tree and read in awe as My Life looked back at me in black and white letters. This was masterfully written. It can be cute and childlike for children, containing a worthy moral, but I'm 70, and I haven't been touched this wonderfully in a long, long time." --T.Guymon "There's not many books out there that can emotionally leave a warm place in my heart, soul, and mind, but this one has received a place in mine. There's not one moment where I didn't find myself not crying because this book has already mean so much to me, it is definitely worth every single second to read. The Little Bonsai Tree is representation of us and the struggles The Little Bonsai Tree goes through, are the trails we meet with, but become more than life lessons, but also as blessing. This book has become my third personal favorite book along my top two of "The Little Prince" by Antoine de Saint-Exupery and "The Alchemist" by Paulo Coelho. That says something about the work that was put in this book. I highly recommend it! Just be sure to have a box of tissues nearby."--naor22 "This book struck me as powerful and poignant. It's not often you can find a book that will resonate with a variety of age groups. A young child could read this with awe and wonder as they discover their full potential in the life they will be leading. Read it again as an adult and you begin to question if you yourself are living life as a Bonsai tree or more than you've allowed yourself to become. Perhaps reading it in another twenty years would allow me to reflect on my life and the choices I've made. So often we go through the motions of life in our comfort zone because it is "pretty." It's the way it "should be." In reality, life is messy. Things are perfect and our roots are meant to expand far beyond the walls of our pot of life. Shalon's words are brilliantly crafted and inspirational. Definitely an excellent read and I'd recommend it to anyone and everyone. It left me pondering all the "dreams" I have for my life, but the massive amounts of uncertainty surrounding them. It inspired me to try and reach for those dreams and ask myself if I am truly living up to my full potential."--Robert "I am in love with this little book! It made me laugh, it made me cry and it made me THINK hard about my own life. What an inspiring story not only for now but for many generations to come! This can be read to the youngest child to the older adult. All will love and be better off for it! I loved it!!"--Amazon Reader "It is not often that you encounter a book that can be enjoyed by multiple generations. I love that one could read it at different times in their lives and relate to it. Absolutely lovely, insightful and tender. Shalon created a fable that is simple yet full of feeling and emotion. I was surprised at the emotional chord it struck in me. A great gift for children and people of all ages."-JW "This is a truly beautiful story about a little bonsai pushed to reach her true potential. The story has multiple layers of meaning, depth, and application for readers of all ages. I plan to use it as a theme book for teaching my own kids how to look beyond others' expectations and to try to find their own unique purpose and mission. The story brought me to tears and is definitely one I will re-read and re-study many, many times. I loved it!"--Melinda Bowen "This is a 'must read' that will stick with you forever and has the potential to change your life."--KT
