Synopsis
Obra cumbre del escritor colombiano Jorge Isaacs en la que se entremezclan las corrientes romántica y realista. El libro, en el que ya se aprecian algunas de las características de la futura novela hispanoamericana, narra en primera persona el amor de Efraín por su prima María, joven de quince años, enferma de un mal incurable. Efraín marcha a Inglaterra para proseguir sus estudios y a su vuelta precipitada por la enfermedad de María, su hermana Emma le narrará los últimos instantes de la vida de la joven.

About the Author
Jorge Isaacs (1837-1895) fue un novelista y poeta colombiano del género romántico. Vivió durante la consolidación de la República. Su padre fue un judío inglés procedente de Jamaica, que se instaló primero en el Chocó, donde se enriqueció con la explotación minera aurífera y el comercio con Jamaica, y después en Cali. La obra literaria de Isaacs se reduce a un libro de poemas que publicó en 1864 y a su única novela, María.
