Alec Rapkin was born in 1940, went to Oxford University and worked as a psychiatric social worker and family therapist. Married, with three children and two grandchildren, he has lived in Derbyshire since 1970. He has had two previous collections published by Dragonheart Press: Under Stone (1988) and Mr Darcy's Butterfly Collection (1992). He was the inaugural Poet Laureate of the Peak (2005–2007).
