From the Author:
Although somewhat shorter than my other two books in this trilogy, Rust Bucket took at least three years to write. I sought to inject fast-paced suspense into a realistic story about one of the great evils of our time, human trafficking. It is hard to imagine, but true, that at an estimated 27,000,000 there are more people enslaved today than at the height of the African slave trade. These human victims, with sensibilities like yours and mine, are forced work in brothels, farms and even factories and other businesses. I also touched on this horrific trade in the second book in this trilogy, Captives of Minara.

In the global competition for market-share, businesses are tempted to abandon ethics in order to reduce costs. Some of them resort to either paying workers starvation wages or, in the case of slaves, no wages at all. Criminal elements have also rushed to embrace human trafficking, driven by the reality that they can sell a human product, unlike drugs, again and again. In enslaved women and men they have a product that keeps on giving.

The germ ofan idea came from a true event, a freighter smuggling Sri Lankan immigrants tothe west coast of Canada. In this case I imagined an old freighter--a rust bucket--beached on a wild and inaccessible section of Vancouver Island, a coast that has seen myriad wrecks through the years.

Each of the books in this trilogy are stand-alone stories, although the characters continue. The Lightning File is set in Southern Ontario where a cadre of terrorists develop a plan to attack four targets that will send a devastating message to the US from Canadian soil.

In Captivesof Minara, journalist Josh Radley travels to Pakistan where he grew up to write about an archaeological discovery that may re-write the history of the Indus civilization. While there he stumbles on a gang engaged in both human trafficking and the smuggling of drugs, artifacts, and munitions.
