About the Author
Award-winning author Sean McCollum has written more than 30 nonfiction books and hundreds of articles for children and teens. Currently living in the United States Virgin Islands in the Caribbean Sea, he has sailed on ships big and small, and always checks where the lifeboats are stowed.

Gr 4-6�Four popular sports are viewed through the lens of STEAM in this informative series. The science sections in each book focus primarily on the physics of ball movement, such as �bending� the ball with the Magnus effect. Baseball�s and Basketball�s arts sections are easily the best in the set, focusing on cartooning and theatrics, respectively; the arts section in Football and Soccer, however, don�t go further than covering uniforms. In an overall great series, there�s just one small gripe: the pitcher�s stride in Baseball is not accurately described, but other than that, the whole series is stellar. VERDICT Students tasked with research projects will be grateful for this series. A solid option for upper elementary schoolers.α(c) Copyright 2011.
