Reviews

Gr 3-5-Aimed at prospective young pet owners, these titles cover characteristics, personalities, and physical traits of hybrid dogs, along with tips about care and health. The writing is generally clear and direct, although the use of a virtually identical paragraph in multiple books is indicative of the sometimes formulaic prose. Most spreads include a small box with added information ranging from size and life span to brief profiles of famous dogs. Advice regarding professional groomers and scheduled play dates assumes a level of affluence among pet owners. Every spread includes a half-page or full-page photo of the dogs, on their own or interacting with humans. Three of the books include images of the two original breeds, but neither poodles nor Labrador retrievers are shown in Labradoodle. VERDICT Serviceable overviews that may fill gaps in the 636s.α(c) Copyright 2011. Library Journals LLC, a wholly owned subsidiary of Media Source, Inc. No redistribution permitted.
