The Revolutionary Piano Method is like no other published method. Great success has been achieved by students who used other methods but never learned to sight-read music. Because of the self-teaching format, it is used by adults and youth who desire to learn at home. The Revolutionary Piano Method is based on principles of instructional design, introducing one concept at a time and allowing the student to become somewhat proficient before introducing another new concept. In the beginning of Level 1, the treble staff notes are mastered before introducing the bass staff. Once both hands play together on the grand staff, then proper timing is taught in the Level 2 book. By methodically increasing one skill at a time, the student should never feel overwhelmed. The student internalizes a thinking process which enables him to identify lines and spaces and locate their corresponding keys. This cognitive procedure facilitates keyboard playing without dependence upon hand positioning or fingering derived from five-finger positions. This is critical to the development of sight-reading skill and is similar to learning to read a language phonetically, rather than memorizing words by sight. Included with each lesson is a Warm-Up! exercise which develops early the ability to play by touch, rather than by constant looking at the piano keyboard for orientation.

Leslie Young lives in Texas with her husband and five piano keyboards (if you count the one on her cell phone). She saw the need for a logical approach to learning to play the piano and developed the Revolutionary Piano Method over forty years of teaching.
