Synopsis

AN AMAZON TOP 10 BESTSELLER — NOW COMPLETELY RE-EDITED AND UPDATED

"They told us we wouldn't survive the week in rehab. They didn't tell us we would fall in love, find the truth, and never see each other again."

Before he earned the prestigious du-Pont Columbia Award for his journalism, Richard Farrell was caught in a war where the enemy was inside his own family, and his own veins.

If you are looking for a sanitized, sugarcoated romance novel, swipe away now. I Am a Heroin Addict is a raw, devastatingly unvarnished look at what happens when two hopelessly broken people collide inside an institutional rehab facility.

There is Ritchie, a man drowning in a ten-bag-a-day habit, running from the horrifying secrets of what his father did to him. And there is Crazy Mary, a street-level prostitute and fellow heroin addict who is facing the looming shadow of a potential AIDS diagnosis.

Bound by a fierce, desperate codependency, these two souls find an absolute, undeniable truth through their love for one another. It is a connection that saves them, breaks them, and ultimately alters the course of their lives—even though they will never see each other again.

Why readers are gripping this book:

- A True Tragic Love Story: A raw look at two people saving each other's spirits while their bodies are breaking down.

- Unfiltered Honesty: No punches are pulled regarding the trauma of abuse, the reality of survival sex work, and the devastating moments where love means pushing someone away just to protect them from a fatal diagnosis.

- Award-Winning Prose: Written with the sharp, driving eye of a screenwriter and investigative journalist who lived through the nightmare and survived to write the tale.

Perfect for readers who want the raw emotional destruction of Beautiful Boy and the haunting realism of The Basketball Diaries, this definitive edition is a powerful testament to the tragic beauty of human connection.
