Those of you who read my first book will know that I am a Nepalese mountain hound from the Makalu region in the high Himalaya. You may be forgiven for asking the question: how on earth did a Nepalese dog come to be travelling to Chad in the Sahara desert? I needed a safe and easy way to get to one of the most remote parts of the world. I didn't want the hassle of getting a visa, yellow fever certificate, air tickets or food. How did I do it? Read on for more of my adventures!

Siân Pritchard-Jones and Bob Gibbons met in 1983, on a trek from Kashmir to Ladakh. By then Bob had already driven an ancient Land Rover from England to Kathmandu (in 1974), and overland trucks across Asia, Africa and South America. He had also lived in Kathmandu for two years, employed as a trekking company manager. Before they met, Siân worked in computer programming and systems analysis. Since they met they have been leading and organising treks in the Alps, Nepal and the Sahara, as well as driving a bus overland to Nepal. Journeys by a less ancient (only 31-year-old) Land Rover from England to South Africa provided the basis for several editions of the Bradt guide Africa Overland, including the sixth edition published in April 2014. They first visited Chad (the Ennedi region) in 2002, when the Tibesti was off-limits, and were very excited to be able to return and visit the Tibesti region this time, fifteen years later. In 2007 they wrote the Cicerone guide to Mount Kailash and Western Tibet, as well updating the Grand Canyon guide. Their Annapurna trekking guide was first published by Cicerone in January 2013, with the second edition in early 2017. In 2015 they were in Nepal during the earthquakes and published Earthquake Diaries: Nepal 2015. A Pictorial Guide to the Horn of Africa (Djibouti, Eritrea, Ethiopia and Somaliland), Australia: Red Centre Treks and In Search of the Green-Eyed Yellow Idol, a 40-year travelogue & autobiography, are all published by Expedition World/CreateSpace/Amazon. Kanchi wrote her first book, Kanchi’s Tale, after joining them on the trek to Makalu Base Camp. For Himalayan Map House they are writing a new series of trekking guidebooks: Himalayan Travel Guides. All books are also available on Amazon websites worldwide.
