Por conservar su título de nobleza, la madre del joven lo obliga a casarse con la hija de un arribista adinerado que la salve de la ruina económica. Al sacrificarse el hijo, accediendo al matrimonio de conveniencia, se desata la más angustia tragedia y se hacen revelaciones de irónica crueldad.. Esta edición del doctor Delgado-Figueroa incluye su ensayo sociológico sobre el racismo en la América hispana y, en específico, en el Puerto Rico contemporáneo, a la vez que evalúa el lugar de LA CUARTERONA en la literaria esclavista hispanoamericana.
