Eric D. Bedford (Rick to his friends) is a retired policeman, having served for 37 years in two Australian Police Forces. He lives somewhere in Australia, with his wife Sherol, touring the country in their 4WD with caravan behind.
Educated to year eleven standard at High School in South Australia, he joined the South Australian Police at age sixteen, commencing the three year training program in 1966, and graduated as a constable in 1969, serving for twenty three years before resigning at the rank of Senior Sergeant and moving to Queensland, where following a stint as Chef Concierge at the Sheraton Mirage Hotel on the Gold Coast, he joined the Queensland Police Service, quickly rising to the rank of Sergeant, thanks to his previous police service. After retiring from police service, he re-entered the workforce as a truck driver, then bus driver, before going to work for Arts Queensland in the Queensland Public Service, until retirement for good beckoned in 2014.
A keen motorcyclist for most of his life, he joined the Ulysses Club Inc. Australia in 1994, and was elected to the National Committee in 1998, after serving as a branch president for just over two years. Elected National Vice President in 1999, and then National President in 2002, he served a total of eight years on the National Committee before standing down from the President role in 2006. He was awarded Life Membership of the Ulysses Club in 2008.
Three marriages, six children and step children, mortgages and the like ensured that the dream to write novels got put on hold by all the associated demands of earning a living and raising children. An average sportsman, he enjoyed playing Australian Rules Football over 29 years, finally hanging up his boots at age 39, but continuing involvement with sports as a referee for Netball, as well as finding some time to lose small white balls on various golf courses.
