In book two of her monumental She Heard a Whippoorwill series, Louise Gore Sayre-David demonstrates the masterful hand of a novelist and historian possessing as well a profound grasp of the intricacies of the human heart and soul. Follow the saga of the Carson family of Green Sea Plantation as a father, his two sons and son-in-law go forth to support the South in its bid for independence. It is a war they believe will last at most for three months. They leave behind the spirited, resourceful Eliza, who must oversee the grand plantation as she waits for the return of her cherished family. The War Between the States drags on for four long years and news from the front comes more and more slowly as Eliza and Green Sea are touched with every tragedy the war can inflict. This insightful, compassionate and factually accurate account of the Civil War will stir the emotions of all who drift back to the South of antebellum South Carolina and live through those events that would change it forever.
