Synopsis

At the Back of the North Wind is a children's book written by Scottish author George MacDonald. It was serialized in the children's magazine Good Words for the Young beginning in 1868 and was published in book form in 1871. It is a fantasy centered on a boy named Diamond and his adventures with the North Wind. Diamond travels together with the mysterious Lady North Wind through the nights. In 1914, a version "Simplified for Children" by Elizabeth Lewis was published by Lippincott. It was illustrated by Maria L. Kirk. The Princess and the Goblin is a children's fantasy novel by George MacDonald. It was published in 1872 by Strahan & Co. The sequel to this book is The Princess and Curdie. Here it is illustrated by Jessie Willcox Smith.

About the Author

George MacDonald (1824-1905), the Scottish Victorian novelist, began his adult life as a clergyman. After a short career in the pulpit he turned to writing, and with publication of his novels in the 1860s, he became widely known. He wrote some 50 books, including poetry, short stories, sermons, and essays, in addition to his novels.
