Kindergarten-Grade 2-Melissa and her grandmother both have vivid imaginations; they can see "puddle-sharks" and "ice-people" and know how to "squinch" their eyes to make "the magic eyelash screen." Melissa's parents and brother don't have time or patience for the child's fantasies, but Grandma not only listens and understands, but also regales her with stories of the "olden days." As they walk home one day, the old woman falls. Although Melissa is afraid of the "shadow-wolves," she summons the courage to find help. Unfortunately, while some of the poetic language used to describe the pair's imaginary forays is wonderful, readers will ultimately be lost. At one point, Lohans abruptly introduces Granny Babi (Grandma's grandmother), ruining the flow of the story. Likewise, the "sundog" reference in the text is obscure. Krykorka's dreamy watercolors match the mood of the story, and the black-and-white sketches of Melissa's fanciful visions that introduce each page of text are inventive. Nevertheless, while well-intentioned, Sundog Rescue will confuse young readers.

Condition: acceptable. Krykorka, Vladyana (illustrator). The item is very worn but is perfectly usable. Signs of wear can include aesthetic issues such as scratches, dents, worn and creased covers, folded page corners and minor liquid stains. All pages and the cover are intact, but the dust cover may be missing. Pages may include moderate to heavy amount of notes and highlighting, but the text is not obscured or unreadable.
