Synopsis

A little boy goes to the farm to see if any of the animals want to play. But the cow, horse, sheep, goat, pig -- and even the chickens -- seem to have other things to do. He's just about to give up when, beside the barn and under a tree, he finds the perfect playmate. The rest of the day is spent in a fun-filled romp around the barnyard. Vibrant illustrations, rhyming text and a playful ending add to the enjoyment of this energetic day at the farm.

Reviews

K-Gr 2-In this rhyming picture book, a small boy tries to encourage various barnyard animals to play with him, but each one is totally uninterested: "The cow said, `Moo,' and ate some hay./The horse just whinnied and walked away." As the child makes his way around the farm, he finally comes upon a little girl who is eager to frolic with him. Their antics excite the animals, which join in the fun until the whole barnyard is filled with joyful sounds. Although colorful watercolors depict the characters gallivanting about, there is nothing noteworthy about this book.-Anne Knickerbocker, Cedar Brook Elementary School, Houston, TX
