While Rich and Willow are at summer camp in Ontario, they find an old boxcar in the middle of the woods. Inside is a mysterious painting. Rick thinks it's worthless but Willow has a hunch that it might be valuable.

Originally from large cities in England, Andrea and David Spalding developed a love of animals and a longing for wide open spaces. After Andrea trained as a teacher and David studied to be a geologist, they moved to Canada in 1967 to pursue their interests. Since then, they have worked in a variety of areas including the natural sciences, archaeology and history, heritage and tourism planning, education, music and storytelling, and have been active in media.
Andrea and David have published numerous children's and nature books. Andrea's work has been recognized by the Canadian Children's Book Centre, the Canadian Library Association, and nominated for the Sheila Egoff Award for Children's Literature and the Ruth Schwartz Award. She has been short-listed twice for Silver Birch awards as well as being a finalist in a CBC writing competition. David has written, co-written, or edited ten books mostly on science for adults, with recent books about dinosaurs and whales. Together, they are the authors of the four titles in the Adventure.Net series.
Andrea and David have three adult daughters and six grandchildren. They live on Pender Island, B.C., and enjoy travelling in Canada and Europe.
