Synopsis
This book offers a fresh and comprehensive look at a complex topic. The volume is divided into two sections: constitutional politics and the impact of federalism across policy fields. The section on constitutional politics examines topics ranging from executive federalism to Aboriginal self-government in the wake of the Charlottetown Accord. The ten chapters in the policy section examine trends in the evolution of the division of powers in a large number of areas including economic policy, social policy, the North American Free Trade Agreement (NAFTA) and the environment. Together they demonstrate that, despite the lack of a formal constitutional agreement, important changes are occurring in the Canadian federal system.
