Synopsis
The greatest contribution of the New Left to the 60s was its determination to build a culture of popular participation at every level of society. Thirty years later, in November of 1999, their legacy and the relevance of their determination was demonstrated by events in Seattle when thousands confronted the international meeting of the World Trade Organization. This book traces the political legacy of the New Left of the 60s into the 90s through the experiences of the participating contributors from the USA, from Canada and from Europe.
Dimitrios Roussopoulos has written widely on international politics, democracy and social change. His most recent publication is The Public Place: Citizen Participation in the Neighbourhood and the City. He lives and works in Montreal.
