About the Author

Dr. Sherry Cooper is chief economist and senior vice-president of Nesbitt Burns, a leading Canadian investment dealer and member of the Bank of Montreal group of companies. She is in constant demand as a speaker and writer because of her ability to simplify and demystify the seemingly complex subjects of economics and investment strategy.

Dr. Cooper has an M.A. and a Ph.D. in economics from the University of Pittsburgh. She was a staff economist at the U.S. Federal Reserve Board and director of the financial economics at the Federal National Mortgage Association, both in Washington, D.C. She moved to Canada in 1983. She is the most widely quoted economist in Canada, and has a significant global following. Dr. Cooper gives more than two hundred speeches each year, is a former member of the Barron's Economic Roundtable, writes a bi-weekly column for the National Post and makes regular appearances on CNBC, CNN, CBC, and CTV.
