Synopsis
In The Cat and the Wizard, Dennis Lee's bouncing, toe-tapping rhymes tell the story of a disgruntled wizard and his unwanted bag of tricks. One evening, in a laundromat, the wizard meets a lonely, jet-black cat with a tall silk hat, a heart full of hospitality, and no one to share it with. Together, the unwanted wizard and the lonely black cat embark on a magical evening of candlelight and cigars, peacocks and waterfalls, juggling turnips and butterflies wings. The party lasts until dawn. Lee's delightful words are accompanied by Gillian Johnson's fanciful illustrations. The result is a wondrous, imaginative, storytelling feast, sure to delight and enchant.

About the Author
Dennis Lee is the critically-acclaimed author of numerous award-winning books of poetry for both adults and children. In 2001, he was named Toronto's first Poet Laureate and was then unanimously declared Canada's nominee for IBBY's Hans Christian Andersen Award. Some of his well-loved titles include Alligator Pie, Jelly Belly, Garbage Delight, Bubblegum Delicious, and So Cool. A co-founder of the House of Anansi, and former poetry editor for McClelland & Stewart, he continues to edit books for friends and new writers. He was the recipient of the Governor General's Award for poetry in 1972 and the Vicky Metcalf Award for a body of work for children in 1986.
