Ariane Archambault is a specialist in applied linguistics who taught foreign languages before becoming a terminologist and editor of dictionaries.

There are 36 themes--among them "Clothing," "Colors and Shapes," "Dinosaurs," "Space," and "Sports"--selected to appeal to primary-age children. Each theme has a double-page spread of small to medium-sized individual illustrations of items allied to the theme. The other 1,300 illustrations are large and in full color and are accompanied by the English word in boldface letters with the word in the other language underneath. The typeface is large and uncluttered and easy to see, although there are no pronunciation guides and no other explanatory text. Separate English and French indexes complete the book.

Public libraries with a large primary-grade audience and school libraries with bilingual programs will find this to be an attractive and useful additions. And at this price, one may want to consider purchasing additional copies to circulate. Dona Helmer
