Grade 4-7 An appealing story written in an easy-to-read manner. Darcy, paralyzed when she was in second grade, moves around in a bright purple wheelchair. She is filled with doubts about entering seventh grade and how the other students will accept her. At summer camp, God reveals to her in a very dramatic way how much He cares for her. Darcy's Christian maturity and faith in God are evident as the story progresses. Tada shows how limitations caused by a handicap can be overcome with supportive family, friends, and faith in God. The story is not as action-packed or dramatic as Matt Christopher's Earthquake (1975) or Stranded (1974, both Little) or Hiliary Milton's Blind Flight (Watts, 1980; o.p.). However, it does reveal the daily frustrations and successes of a disabled person, showing show how Darcy learns to accept her handicap and increases her faith in God.
